Play Therapy
Play therapy is a form of therapy used primarily for children. That’s because children
may not be able to process their own emotions or articulate problems to parents or
other adults.
While it may look like an ordinary playtime, play therapy can be much more than that.
Through play, children can learn new coping mechanisms and how to redirect
inappropriate behaviours.
The therapist uses playtime to observe and gain insights into a child’s struggles. The
therapist can then help the child explore emotions and deal with unresolved difficulties.
There are a number of approaches to play therapy. One of the most effective is called
non-directive. This is based upon principles developed by Virginia Axline.
Creative Therapy
Creative therapy is based on the premise that when someone works creatively under
the guidance of the therapist, they become more expressive and communicative. This
raises their awareness of issues and brings impetus for change.
Collage work, Clay shaping, Colouring, Glass stenciling, Painting, Object building,
Sand-tray, Sound making, Glass painting, Wool work and using various other materials.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is a type of psychotherapy in which a therapist helps two people
involved in a romantic relationship gain insight into their relationship, resolve conflict
and improve relationship satisfaction utilising a variety of therapeutic interventions.
Couples therapy tends to involve the following general elements:
● A focus on a specific problem (eg: conflict resolution, overworking, sexual difficulties, internet addiction, jealousy and emotional difficulties).
● Supporting more effective ways of communicating with each other.
● Active participation on the part of the therapist in treating the relationship itself.
● Solution-focused and change-oriented interventions.
Adult Therapy
Living is an unpredictable experience. In a very short period of time, we can move from
smooth sailing to complete turmoil. For some people, coping with the changes of
everyday life can be very challenging and overwhelming.
Sometimes seemingly insignificant events can build up to the point of feeling
unmanageable. People often seek support via Counseling and Psychotherapy to
navigate their way through these times.
Counseling and Psychotherapy services are available for a wide range of difficulties
such as; Abuse, Addictions, Anger, Anxiety, Communication difficulties, Depression,
Fears, Grief, Loss, Relationship issues, Self-Esteem and Trauma.
Addiction
Working with clients from diverse backgrounds who have various addiction disorders
such as: alcohol, drug, gambling, sex and work addictions.
Throughout this process I continually review, assess and challenge the clients'
commitment to recovery practices. The approach taken in addiction treatment is more
directive while challenging with compassion and at the same time motivating.
This approach is tailored for each individual in order to confront the power of denial and
delusion.
The work together implements strategies for recovery and to prevent relapse.
Supervision
Supervision is a formal arrangement for Professionals/Counsellors/Psychotherapists
to discuss their professional work regularly with someone who is experienced in the field
of Supervision. It is a reflective practice of the supervisee work.
The task is to work together to ensure and develop the efficacy of the
Professional/Client relationship. Supervision is an ethical requirement for Counsellors/Psychotherapists to engage in as per the code of practice of IACP, IAHIP and other professional organisations.
